Welcome everyone to another edition of #3OT!
1st OT: Improved Shooting Snaps Skid
The last few games for the Ragin Cajuns basketball have been less than stellar in terms of shooting. The Cajuns looked like this would have been another game that the Cajuns lost due to poor shooting, going 10-33 from the field. But something head coach Bob Marlin must have said got the team back on track, as they went 58 percent from the field in the second half. It didn’t set the world on fire, but the hot start in the second half definitely helped out a lot as the half wore on.
2nd OT: Shawn Long Unleashes Beast Mode
The last few games for Shawn Long haven’t been the alpha male type of games he’s had this season. Tonight was the old Long. Beast mode was unleashed on Thursday against Troy and he made them pay with 29 points and 20 boards. He was also a monster defensively with five blocks, which gave him the career blocks record for the Cajuns. The old Shawn Long showed up and when he shows up, a W is almost guaranteed.
3rd OT: Interesting Situation Heading Into Final Three Games
I mentioned recently on Bumper to Bumper Sports with Ben Love that the Cajuns could get back on the right side of things if they can turn things around on this road trip to Alabama. And this shows that they could get things going much like they did after two tough losses in Arkansas and sweeping both Georgia teams. Does this mean that the Cajuns will be alright heading into the tournament? Maybe. Currently, the Cajuns are in third place, which would give them a bye in the Sun Belt Conference tournament. The Cajuns and the Warhawks, who are still in second after a win over South Alabama face off against the same opponents in the final three games. The Cajuns will need to win two more games than the Warhawks to get that crucial double-bye to avoid facing off against Arkansas-Little Rock until the finals. The fate of the Cajuns chances for the tourney in New Orleans is in their hands.
