When I heard the news of the critically acclaimed artist Prince passed away, I didn’t want to believe it. But as more and more news outlets began to pick up the story it became more real to me. I guess in the age of social media we are more speculative about stories about pop culture icons passing away.
I could discuss how amazing of an artist he was and a trailblazer in terms of being cool in his own way, but since this is a sports station, I wanted to touch on a few of those things.
He was part of one of the greatest Super Bowl Halftime shows of all time, right next to Michael Jackson’s performance. The guy made it rain on stage during Purple Rain. If that’s not awesome, I don’t know what is.

Not only was he a great musical performer, he apparently was as talented in sports, especially on the hardwood. According to stories, he had made the varsity team his freshman year of high school. Imagine if Prince had kept playing hoops instead of making music. Pretty hard to fathom.
And let’s not forget the story of Prince schooling Charlie Murphy in a game of basketball.
