Welcome everyone to another edition of #TriplePlay!
Turn One: Poor Hitting, Good Pitching
The Ragin Cajuns are undoubtedly thankful for having the pitching depth that they do and this weekend they needed it in a big way. In the series against Texas State, the Cajuns combined for 17 hits and had a .207 batting average. Keep in mind 11 of the 17 hits came on Friday night against the Bobcats. The pitching came through once again allowing only four runs and 15 hits. The Cajuns offense had a rare off weekend in conference play, but were still able to take two out of three against Texas State.
Turn Two: Gunner Catching Fire, Missing the Marks
The sophomore stud Gunner Leger had one of his best performances this year allowing one run off four hits and struck out a season-high nine batters on Friday night. If there’s such a thing as a sophomore slump, it doesn’t apply to him. He has been rolling the last few weeks and has lowered his ERA to a 2,43 on the year. Leger is going to be the Cajuns pitcher that the team will need to rely on because it seems that Wyatt Marks has started to cool off, as he has allowed 11 runs in his last three starts.
Turn Three: Busy Week Ahead
The Cajuns continue to have a rough road to the end of the season with five games on tap this week starting on Tuesday in Hattiesburg to take on the Eagles of Southern Miss. Then you have to double back to take on Louisiana Tech in the Tigue on Wednesday. The Tigers will close out the week with a three game series on the road against UT Arlington. The first two games will be a difficult midweek slate, but that’s how the Cajuns like it, and their RPI shows it as they’re currently ranked 12th in the nation according to D1Baseball. UT Arlington is one of those series the Cajuns can’t overlook as they are currently right behind South Alabama in the conference standings and still have a couple weeks before the top two will face off.
