LSU vs Arkansas Preview

LSU Arkansas Preview

Welcome everyone to the latest LSU preview where I look at each game on the schedule! This week it’s the Tigers taking on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Last Week: The last time LSU was out on the field, it was in a 10-0 defensive war that ended with a loss to Alabama. Meanwhile, the Razorbacks got a big win over the Florida Gators 31-10.

Last Meeting: The last time these two teams faced off, the Razorbacks defeated the Tigers 31-14. Arkansas has won the last two meetings, but LSU holds the overall series 37-22-2.

What to Watch For:

Another Hangover Game? The LSU-Arkansas game has been billed the hangover game since it has come right after the Alabama game after it got bumped over once Texas A&M joined the SEC a few years ago. This team does look like they want to bounce back after a disheartening loss to their longtime rival and having an energetic guy like Coach O rallying the troops could do wonders for this team. If LSU can get up to the task of taking on a good Arkansas team, a win could be in their future.

Can Fournette Bounce Back? Arkansas has given LSU a hard time in more ways than one, especially when it comes to Leonard Fournette. In the last two meetings, the junior running back had a combined 99 yards against the Razorback defense. However, this isn’t the same defense of the last couple of seasons as they’ve allowed 198 yards a game on the ground. So maybe this team could give Fournette a good bounce back game.

Battle Through the Air: Both teams have solid QBs heading into this game and if they want to, it can become a shootout between Austin Allen and Danny Etling.  If it does come to that, I’d probably give the Tigers a slight edge because they have a good pair of backs that can open up the passing game and vice versa.

LSU Will Win If:

The LSU Tigers can get over the proverbial hangover if they can do what they’ve been doing lately. It’s been working against similar teams to Arkansas so why not continue to do what works. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel, just make sure the wheel can move at a good pace.

Arkansas Will Win If:

The Razorbacks can beat the Tigers for the third straight season if Austin Allen can outperform Danny Etling. The offensive line for Etling has been less than stellar the last few games and if a lackluster performance continues, the Razorbacks QB might have a better opportunity to get this offense past LSU.
