Northside QB Chance Prejean Transfers to Carencro

Carencro

By BEN LOVE

Chance Prejean, who a season ago starred at Northside High, has transferred to nearby Carencro High for his senior season, per Golden Bears offensive coordinator Kevin Faulk.

Faulk joined “Bumper to Bumper Sports” on Monday, announcing that Prejean will suit up for Carencro in 2017 and is currently competing with rising junior Austen Breaux for the starting quarterback job.

The dual-threat Prejean gave opposing defenses fits in 2016 when he posted 1,933 yards and 17 touchdowns passing for the Vikings to go along with 378 yards and four scores on the ground.

Prejean, listed by Scout.com at 5-foot-11 and 172 pounds, could fill big shoes left by Carl Randall, who guided Carencro to a Class 4A state quarterfinal appearance last fall

UPDATE (Tuesday, 6 PM): A source with knowledge of the situation informs 103.7 The Game that Prejean’s transfer came as a result of rezoning as well as cooperation from the Vikings’ side of the ledger.

Prejean, it must be noted, was also an important member of the Northside basketball team.

“He was rezoned for Carencro in the new zoning for this year,” the source said. “He could have remained at Northside; however, football is his best sport and he has aspirations of playing in college.

“Northside is in the process of hiring a new football coach, so it was a better opportunity for the kid. Chance met with Northside before he made his decision and left with the blessings of the basketball staff.”

Good to see coaches and schools still looking out for the best of its players, even if it means them walking out the door.

Every game of Golden Bears football in 2017 will be broadcast live on Z-105.9.

Listen in below to the full interview with Faulk, including his praise for senior-to-be edge rusher Keon Jean-Batiste.
