As the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-2) headed into the locker room at halftime, they seemed to have all the momentum after Jordan Davis connected with Jordan Wright in the endzone to lead 21-14 over Texas A&M (2-1).
The first drive of the second half for the Cajuns was the beginning of the end after Davis is picked off by Armani Watts. The Aggies capitalized on the turnover with a quick nine-play drive that ended with Kellen Mond running into the endzone to tie things up at 21.
The Cajuns struggles continued when they went three and out on the following drive, Texas A&M went down the field on a 10-play drive capped off by a 12 yard pass from Mond to Camron Buckley.
The Cajuns day went from bad to worse at the start of the 4th quarter when Davis threw a pick-six to Tyrel Dodson to put the game officially out of reach at 38-21. The Aggies wound up making two more touchdowns later in the quarter to beat the Cajuns 45-21.
The Cajuns will open up the conference slate at Cajun Field on Saturday to take on UL Monroe (0-2) with kickoff set for 4 pm.
Extra Points:
Return of Solid Run Defense: The front seven for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had been up to this point pretty paper thin. With the departure of Tanner Holmes, it seemed like the problem was bound to continue. However, the Cajuns were able to hold down the Aggies in the run game for 179 yards.
It’s a good sign that this defense was able to step even after moving players around to fit certain positions.
