It seemed like only a matter of time that LSU would part ways with offensive coordinator. On Friday the university put out a press release announcing that they have mutually agreed to end his employment.

“I want to thank Matt for his contribution here at LSU and wish him and his family the best,” said head coach Ed Orgeron. “We have mutually agreed to part ways and go in a different direction offensively but are always grateful for the time and effort Matt made here at LSU.”

Orgeron also said that the offense made some improvements in 2017 with his new schemes in concepts. However, the offense did not measure up to the standards he set for LSU.

The process to find a new offensive coordinator will begin immediately according to Orgeron.

“We have a lot of talent coming up on offense,” said Coach O. “We want to put our players in the best possible position to succeed which means improving our vertical passing game and developing our quarterbacks and wide receivers to be at their absolute best.”

The university hasn’t officially announced the terms, but Ross Dellenger of the Baton Rouge Advocate reports that Canada agreed to part ways with the program for roughly $1.7 million in buyout money. That’s about half of the buyout money that the former Pitt offensive coordinator was owed
