What We Learned From the CFP Championship Game

Posted by clintdomingue on January 9, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

CFP

Monday night’s national championship game taught us a lot about the world of college football on Monday night when Alabama and Georgia duked it out in an overtime battle that saw the Tide overcome a big deficit late to win in overtime.

However, there was a lot more to it than just another team from the state of Georgia blowing a double-digit lead.

Student Can’t Get Past Teacher

The Saban coaching tree over the years has branched out and really affected the world of college football. However, the student under one of the best in the history of college football can’t get past the teacher. Monday night was the 12th time Saban faced off against a former assistant coach and Saban improved to 12-0 with the win, but it wasn’t without some drama.

The second half adjustments Saban made on both sides of the ball were the difference maker and really showed how good he really is as a head coach.

Tagovailoa Creates QB Controversy

One of the big adjustments that the Crimson Tide made was benching Jalen Hurts for Tua Tagovailoa. It was a gutsy call and it paid off in spades, showing that Saban can simply reload and perform on the biggest stage.

What we saw from Tagovailoa is going to cause a lot of interest as we head into the offseason when it comes to quarterback controversy. It’ll be interesting to see what happens once spring practice gets started up who will be the leader in the clubhouse.

Alabama’s Weak Spot is Special Teams

When you look at all the dynasties in sports, there’s always something that the team has that can cost them a ballgame at any given moment. Alabama’s weakness has been special teams, especially when it comes to field goal kicking with a pair of field goals missed by Andy Pappanastos.

Thankfully for fans of the Crimson Tide it didn’t come down to a missed field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter. However, it was strange to see a kicker on one of the best programs in the history of college football miss two relatively easy field goals.
