The Fave 5: Goin’ Deep

Posted by alanmichael on February 19, 2018 in Blogs, Featured

Caution: The Fave 5 is unfiltered, unapologetic, and completely uncensored!

5. Getting Out with 1

While the weekend was not sunshine and rainbows for the Ragin’ Cajuns, beating the Longhorns on Sunday salvaged the start of the season and more importantly the team’s confidence. Losing 2 of three puts Robichaux’ team in a hole record wise, but it should not sink them too much in the morale department.

4. NBA All Star Game Opening Ceremony

Sure the jokes Kevin Hart told about our favorite NBA players were kind of lame and silly. Sure Fergie is not Aretha Franklin and didn’t give then most awe-inspiring rendition of the National Anthem. None of that matters though, because the opening ceremonies for Sunday’s NBA All Star Game did not need to be well written or perfectly done; they just had to be entertaining. And with Lakers Girls and Clipper Girls dancing to jokes about Draymond Green’s teeth and the sexiest version of the anthem we have ever heard, the intro to this year’s All Star Game most certainly was!

3. The #3

20 years after The Intimidator took the checkered flag at Daytona, Austin Dillon took the #3 back to Victory Lane. After Dale Earnhardt’s death 17 years ago, the #3 car was not a part of NASCAR until 2014 when RCR owner Richard Childress brought the iconic number back for his grandson. With the pressure of being the grandson of a legendary owner and all of the advantages that comes with on his back, Austin Dillon was also able to withstand the pressure of racing with one of the most important numbers in the sport on the side of his car and win the Daytona 500.

DAYTONA 500 recap: Denver's Furniture Row Racing, Martin Truex Jr. finished 18th. Austin Dillon finished 1st in the #3 car, 20 years after Dale Earnhardt won his only Daytona 500. Here's Earnhardt & Austin Dillon (7 years old) to his right, 20 years ago. pic.twitter.com/jzIt7h8bxZ

2. Derrick Lewis & Nate Diaz

After an amazing display of heart in his knockout win of Marcin Tybura, Derrick Lewis put on another amazing display in his post fight interview. Showing love to his family and friends, Lewis then capped off his celebration thank yous with the following quote: “I’m going to try and rest up a little bit so I can be strong in the fourth round with (my wife), I’m going to knock it out of the box.” “To my baby, April, better get ready girl, I’m going deep.” This revealing quote was then immediately followed by the UFC cameras catching Nate Diaz in the crowd taking the event in. When Diaz realized the camera was on him, he whipped out a Texas sized blunt and starting sparking it with his lighter. Needless to say this was the best 90 seconds the UFC has produced all year so far.

1. Players Only

The NBA’s gimmick of “Players Only” has to be the coolest thing going on the broadcast side of sports these days. Brent Barry anchored All Star Saturday Night as a cavalcade of other NBA stars joined him to call all of the action. It was a very fun and refreshing way to take in the NBA and I highly recommend watching Players Only games on NBA TV. The only thing better than watching players only broadcasts though, is when Dennis Scott gets his interviewees to actually say, “players only.”
