Bowen Walk-Off Caps Off Late Inning Collapse for Louisiana

Posted by clintdomingue on April 3, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

It was a rough night for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-16). After being up five runs headed into the bottom of the eighth, the Cajuns bullpen collapsed leading to a 9-8 win for Southern Miss (19-7) courtesy of a big walkoff by Bryant Bowen.

How It Happened

The Cajuns got the first run on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single up the middle from Zach LaFleur. After an RBI single from Bowen tied things up, the Cajuns responded in a big way with a four-run inning in the fifth to make it 5-1.

Hayden Cantrelle extended Louisiana’s lead with a two-run triple down the right field line in the sixth. However, Luke Reynolds chipped away at the deficit with a two-run shot out to right field in the bottom frame, making it 7-3.

After an RBI single from Tyler Stover, things started to fall apart with a grand slam by Matt Walner followed up by Cole Donaldson scoring off of a throwing error in the eighth. Southern Miss got the win in the ninth with a walkoff single from Bryant Bowen.

Dylan Moore dropped to 1-2 on the year allowing two runs (one earned) off of four hits in one and a third innings of work.

Big Number: 15

The Cajuns bats definitely came alive tonight, batting .357 on the evening. However, it wasn’t enough in a loss due to the bullpen underwhelming.

Player of the Game: Hayden Cantrelle

The Teurlings Catholic product had a great showing despite the loss, going two-of-five with three RBIs on Tuesday night. Cantrelle was an impact player and helped the Cajuns get out to a big lead.

Next Up: Game Two; First Pitch Set for 6 pm
