UT Arlington Avoids Cajuns Sweep In Extra Innings

Posted by clintdomingue on April 8, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

Sunday’s series finale between the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (15-17, 5-7 Sun Belt) and UT Arlington (15-15, 7-5 Sun Belt) was a strange ballgame to say the least. From the home plate umpire leaving in the second inning to a batter going out of order, the Mavericks were never quite out it and came away with a 4-2 victory in extra innings to avoid the series sweep.

How It Happened

The Mavericks got on the board in the top of the second when Boone Montgomery hit a one-out single through the right side to score Noah Vaughan. However, the Cajuns were able to tie things up in the bottom of the third with Kasuls scoring off of a groundout by Kennon Fontenot.

Daniel Lahare gave Louisiana a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a two-out RBI double out to left center field, scoring Kole McKinnon. Josh Minjarez tied things up shortly after with a solo shot out into left field. It remained tied at two until the top of the 10th when Omar Salinas broke the stalemate with a sac fly out to deep center field to score Minjarez. Montgomery gave the Mavericks a little insurance later in the inning with a fielder’s choice that scored Christian Hollie off of a throwing error by Cantrelle.

Dylan Moore dropped to 1-3 allowing two runs off of one hit without recording an out.

Big Number: 13

The Cajuns were able to hit fairly consistently all weekend long, but couldn’t get any runs across, stranding 13 runners on the afternoon. They also left the bases loaded in two innings.

Player of the Game: Daniel Lahare

Even in a loss, Lahare gets the honors, going four-of-five on the afternoon with an RBI double and three singles.

Next Up: Host McNeese State Tuesday; First Pitch at 6 pm
