Louisiana Evens Series with Georgia State in 6-4 Victory

Posted by clintdomingue on April 29, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (25-20, 11-9 Sun Belt) have had a hard time getting things done in extra inning affairs. Their fortunes finally turned around on Saturday thanks to a big sac bunt in the 11th to come away with a 6-4 win over Georgia State (21-21, 7-12 Sun Belt).

How It Happened

The Cajuns got on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single through the right side from Kole McKinnon to score Kennon Fontenot. Georgia State responded in the fourth with an RBI double from Luke Leonard followed by a steal home to make it 2-1. Will Kilgore made it 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double of his own down the left field line.

Gavin Bourgeois got the Cajuns right back into the ballgame with a double down the left field line in the eighth. He scored later in the inning off of a wild pitch to even things up at three runs apiece. Hunter Kasuls got them back out in front with a solo shot out to right field.

However, Leonard got the Panthers back in it with an RBI single to even it up at four runs. The Cajuns came up clutch once again with a sac bunt by Jonathan Windham, scoring two runs.

Big Number: 15

Georgia State could’ve easily came away with a win on Saturday afternoon. They racked up a total of 12 hits, but left 15 on base. If not for that, this might’ve not gone to extras.

Player of the Game: Logan Stoelke

Welcome back Logan Stoelke. After suffering an injury a few weeks back, the Cajuns closer made his triumphant return and kept his nose to the grindstone, allowing only one run off of three hits in four innings of work. It’s not often that you see him in an extended outing like this, but it worked out really well for the Cajuns.

Next Up: Rubber Match; First Pitch at 12 pm
