LSU Tigers vs Southeastern Louisiana Lions Preview

Posted by clintdomingue on September 4, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

Welcome everyone to the latest preview for LSU’s next matchup! This week, the Tigers take on the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana inside Death Valley. Of course it is a step down from last Sunday at AT&T Stadium, but still an important matchup when it comes to getting some of the younger players some playing time.

Without further ado, let’s get on with the preview!

Last Time Out:

Southeastern Louisiana started off the season coming up just short against UL Monroe after the Warhawks blocked a field goal as time expired this past Thursday. LSU on the other hand, came away with an impressive win over the Miami Hurricanes that resulted in a 33-17 win under the bright lights of Jerry’s World.

Last Meeting:

It’s been a long time since the Tigers and the Lions have faced off. In fact, these two teams have only faced off once and that was in a 48-7 win for LSU back in November of 1949. While they’ve only played them once, Southeastern Louisiana played inside Tiger Stadium back in 2005 when they took on Tulane after Hurricane Katrina forced the matchup to be moved over to Baton Rouge.

Storylines to Watch:

Will We See Brennan:

With the Tigers facing off against an FCS opponent, it’s expected that we’ll see Myles Brennan get some playing time. During his press conference on Tuesday he mentioned that they will use him as a second-string quarterback and if Burrow underperforms, he’ll put Brennan in no questions asked.

That being said, I expect to see Myles Brennan to come into the ballgame in the second half and get some time to show what he can do. This will undoubtedly be a big storyline for people who will watch a relatively non-consequential ballgame on Saturday in Death Valley.

Who Steps Up for Chaisson:

The Tigers lost one of their best players on the field over the weekend in K’Lavon Chaisson for the season with an ACL injury. He initially waved off a cart after going down with an injury and many hoped that it wasn’t going to be a huge setback, but Orgeron announced that he would miss the rest of the year on Tuesday.

The Tigers head coach mentioned that Ray Thornton, Andre Anthony,  and Travez Moore as some players that could step up. While there’s never a good time to suffer an injury at a crucial position, this week’s matchup is a low-risk situation in terms of putting in some raw players to determine if they can get some significant playing time down the line when the opponents get tougher.

LSU Will Win If:

The Tigers will likely improve to 2-0 with relative ease, it’s just a matter of by how much for the Tigers.

Southeastern Will Win If:

To be honest, there’s no way that Southeastern Louisiana is getting a win against the Tigers. If they somehow do pull off the monumental upset, all the goodwill that LSU gained over the weekend is washed away.
