What We Learned From Week Two of High School Football

Posted by clintdomingue on September 8, 2018 in Blogs, Football Night In Acadiana, High School Sports, Latest News

Week two of prep football in the Acadiana area is in the books and there were a lot of big games that lived up to the hype and that means there’s a lot to take away from all the matchups. Week one to week two is when you can see a lot of progress and that was obvious based on some of the end results.

Without further ado, here’s what we learned from the second week of high school football.

Rayne Has Some Work to Do

The Wolves last year were the toast of 4-4A, surprising a lot of people with their performance. Their point differential at one point was better than most. I mean this was a squad that was 7-2 and made a solid run through the postseason. They’ve had a tough time duplicating that so far, taking one on the chin last week against Welsh in a 41-16 loss. Things looked a little better on Thursday with a 17-14 loss to Lake Charles College Prep and that is something that the coaches have likely talked about with their players after the game.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they start stacking up Ws with matchups against Eunice, Erath, and Youngsville closing out non-district play.

Don’t Mess with Carencro

Call it homer radio, but the Golden Bears brought Sulphur to the absolute limit last week and made NISH look silly. The Yellow Jackets have been a consistently good program and coming away with a win this early in the season is a big step in the right direction.

4-4A is an incredibly tough district and the next few weeks will be a true test for the team before the real gauntlet that is 4-4A gets underway.

Acadiana’s Back (But Did They Ever Leave?)

Acadiana had a big test against Ruston, who pulled off a sizable upset against Neville last week. Yes it was another close ballgame, but they’re not exactly facing off against a 1A program that can’t get off the ground. This is a program that has been a power in North Louisiana that saw Bert Jones come through those hallways and has had a taste of success.

At the end of the day, the Wreckin’ Rams are 2-0 on the year and faced off against some solid competition the last two weeks. It’s just my opinion, but I think it’s safe to say that Acadiana is back, but the real question is did they ever go away.

The Knight Train is Rolling!

You want to know how dominant LCA has been two weeks into the season? Both weeks they dropped 50-plus points on their opponents and shut both of them out. The point differential is the best in the Acadiana area with a difference of +111. We already knew that this offense was going to be one of the best with Zachary Clement leading the way, but you can’t forget about the Knights defense.

The trophy room at Lafayette Christian Academy may need to make some room for some more state championship trophies before the year wraps up because this looks like a team destined for the Dome.
