Frank Walks It Off for Cajuns Against Tulane

Posted by clintdomingue on March 27, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

When these two teams faced off last Wednesday, it really came down to who was at the plate last. It should come as no surprise that it would be more of the same on Tuesday at Russo Park with the Cajuns finding an unlikely source for their 7-6 victory in Colton Frank.

How It Happened:

The Green Wave’s evening started off poorly with a pair of walks to start the ballgame, immediately putting runners in scoring position. A throwing error by Krishna Raj gave the Cajuns a 1-0 lead with Hayden Cantrelle reaching home safely. Todd Lott increased the Cajuns lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single up the middle to make it 3-0.

After Monica got Brennan Breaux across home plate later in the inning, the Green Wave tied things up at four runs apiece with an RBI ground-rule double from Kody Hoese and a three-run blast from Grant Matthews. Jonathon Artigues continued the offensive onslaught later in the inning with a two-run ground-rule double out to left field to take a 6-4 lead.

The Cajuns responded in the bottom of the sixth with Cantrelle scoring off of a throwing error by Frankie Niemann. Nathan Camp tied things up at six runs when he got his first career hit with an RBI single through the left side.

It remained tied until the bottom of the ninth and Colton Frank approached home plate to lead off the inning. He liked the first pitch he saw and crushed it for his first hit and the walk-off win.

Big Number: 2

The two errors by the Green Wave loomed large in the Cajuns win on Wednesday, especially the failed pickoff attempt by Neimann.

Player of the Game: Jack Burk

Burk had a solid four innings of work and allowed only four hits on the evening. At first glance, this felt like a Jack Wholestaff affair but Burk was able to get things under control before exiting after the fourth inning.

Next Up: Friday at Troy; First Pitch 6 pm
