Ragin Cajuns Drop Series Opener to Troy in Heartbreaking Fashion

Posted by clintdomingue on March 30, 2019 in Featured

What a heartbreaker for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Friday night, losing in walk-off fashion to the Troy Trojans by the score of 5-4.

How It Happened:

Todd Lott got the Cajuns going in the first with an RBI double out to left field and followed up by a two-run double from Hunter Kasuls to give them an early 3-0 advantage over Troy. However, the Trojans responded in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to left center from Rigsby Mosley. After Chase Smartt was walked with the bases loaded in the third, the Troy took the lead with a two-run fourth highlighted by an RBI single from Sadler Goodwin.

Orynn Veillon made it a 4-4 ballgame in the fifth with an RBI single out to left field, but Smartt proved to be the deciding factor in the bottom of the ninth with a sac fly out to right field to score Dalton Sinquefield.

Big Number: 9

While this number didn’t tell the entire story of the game, it still is a little unusual with the Troy pitching staff walking nine batters on the evening.

Player of the Game: Hunter Kasuls

Kasuls was on point albeit in a losing effort, going two-of-four with two RBIs. Kasuls has been getting more consistent as the season progresses and this was great to see.

Next Up: Saturday vs Troy; First Pitch 3 pm
