Southern Miss Rallies in 9th to Beat the Cajuns

Posted by clintdomingue on April 23, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were living large headed into the ninth on Tuesday night with a 6-3 lead over Southern Miss. However, the Golden Eagles bats came alive in the ninth inning and continued the Cajuns bad luck in the back end of the ballgame as Southern Miss came away with a 7-6 win.

How It Happened:

The Cajuns struck first with a two-run bomb by Handsome Monica in the second to take an early lead. Later in the inning, Tremaine Spears made it a 3-0 lead when he hit a single to shortstop that allowed Daniel Lahare to get on the board. The Golden Eagles cut into the lead when McGillis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Bryant Bowen tied things up in the bottom of the third with a two-run shot to left field. It remained tied up until the sixth inning when Daniel Lahare laid down a sac bunt, scoring Hunter Kasuls in the process.

The Cajuns offense kept it going in the seventh with an RBI triple from Hayden Cantrelle and an RBI single from Orynn Veillon to make it a 6-3 ballgame. However, Southern Miss exploded in the ninth with a four-run inning, including a walk-off double from Cole Donaldson.

Big Number: 7

The Cajuns pitching staff gave the Golden Eagles too many free passes on Tuesday night with seven total walks and one of those resulted in a run early in the ballgame. It was another bad night for the pitching staff, especially late.

Player of the Game: Bryant Bowen

The Shreveport native was a crucial part of the Golden Eagles offensive output, going three of five with three RBIs, including a two-run home run to tie things up.

Next Up: Friday vs Texas State; First Pitch at 6:30 pm
