Seniors Highlight Home Finale Against Georgia State

Posted by clintdomingue on May 12, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Some screenwriters couldn’t have written up a better way to end the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns home slate on Sunday against Georgia State. All of the seniors started and produced on the way to an 11-5 win to secure the series sweep.

How It Happened:

Georgia State started off the series finale with a well-hit RBI double to left field in the first by Griffin Cheney. Later in the inning, Brandon Bell’s groundout got Cheney across home plate to make it 2-0.

Elian Merejo led off the fourth inning with a solo shot out to left field. However, with one booming swing of the bat, Handsome Monica tied things up with a three-run bomb that went over the scoreboard. Kole McKinnon gave the Cajuns the lead later in the inning with an RBI single.

Luke Leonard would tie things up though, scoring off of a wild pitch, but Brennan Breaux and O’

Neal Lochridge answered the bell in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of RBI single to make it 6-4. A sac fly by Brandon Bell put the Panthers within one run in the seventh inning.

The Cajuns slammed the door shut though in the bottom of the eighth with a five-run inning, including a three-run bomb from Todd Lott that was the exclamation point to the Cajuns victory.

Big Number: 7

Gunner Leger got on the mound for the first time in almost a month and him facing seven batters and striking out the last batter he saw was a perfect way to send off one of the best pitchers in the history of the Ragin Cajuns.

Player of the Game: Handsome Monica

Speaking of a senior in his final game at Russo Park, Monica was outstanding with his three-run bomb being the obvious highlight and a home run that many in attendance won’t soon forget.

Next Up: Thursday vs UL Monroe; First Pitch at 6 pm
