More money or more vacation? What’s more important?
If you had a choice to have more vacation time or get a pay raise, which would you choose? According to a new survey, one-third of American employees want more free time!
If you are making tons of money but no time to enjoy the money, then what’s the point, right?
But how much salary are we talking? According to this survey, workers were willing to part with 26 percent of their earnings in order to have an unlimited amount of vacation. So if a person is making $4000 a month, that amount would go down to $3000 month. Sounds surreal, doesn’t it? As much vacation as the individual wants or needs is all theirs for the taking. It may not be as amazing as it sounds. Most employees have a certain amount of work to complete in a certain timeframe and taking days off may prove to be difficult. And also, with an unlimited amount of vacation, managers may expect the employee to work while on vacation. So yes, answering emails on the beach may be expected.
Although, with an unlimited amount of vacation, a person could use days to attend school plays or award ceremonies. The employee could spend a day catching up on errands which is hard to do with a 9-5 schedule.
A payroll provider called Namely took a closer look at what it would mean for an employee to have unlimited vacation. According to their analysis of companies that already offer unlimited time off, the average employee is able to squeeze in an average of 13 days off a year. Employees at other companies that offer traditional time off managed to take an average of 15 days a year.
It all really depends on the type of job and the workload of the employee.
