Walker High star guard Jalen Cook officially signed his national letter of intent to play his college basketball with the LSU Tigers.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Tigers received a bit of good news prior to Wednesday’s game at VCU.

LSU head coach Will Wade announced that the LSU Athletics Department had received, and approved, national letter-of-intent paperwork from Walker High star Jalen Cook.

The 6-foot-0 point guard helped Walker to a Class 5A title as a sophomore and then last season averaged 29.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.8 steals for a Wildcats team that finished as state runner-up.

“We are very happy to have Jalen Cook join the LSU Basketball program,” Wade said in a statement. “His ability to score and distribute the basketball, as well as his skills on defense will be a big addition for the Tigers and we look forward to him joining us next season.”

According to 247Sports.com, Cook is a four-star recruit, the No. 2 prospect in the state of Louisiana and 16th in the nation at the position. Cook was also voted as the Class 5A All-State MVP, and named the Farm Bureau/Mr. Basketball and USA Today Louisiana Player of the Year awards.

Cook becomes the first signee for the 2020 recruiting class for LSU and the first sign to ink during the early signing period which began on Wednesday and will last a full week.

Oak Hill Academy’s Bradley Ezewiro — a 6-foot-8, 230-pound three-star recruit out of California — had verbally committed to the Tigers back in October and is expected to sign during the early period as well.
