The New Orleans Pelicans have now lost 13 consecutive games after a 108-101 overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

The loss extends their franchise record losing streak and drops their record to 6-22 for the season.

How It Happened:

It was a slow start on offense for both teams in the first half. The Pelicans and Nets ended the first quarter tied at 21 before Brooklyn brought a 42-35 lead into the halftime break.

But the game started with a Garrett Temple 3-pointer on the Nets’ first possession. The Pelicans didn’t obtain their first lead of the game until Jaxson Hayes split a pair of free throws with 2:33 remaining in the first. New Orleans led 17-16 at that point and Hayes ended the quarter with a dunk in the final seconds to tie the game.

New Orleans had their lowest scoring quarter in regulation as they scored only 14 points in the second. The Nets kept the offensive pace they had in the first by scoring 21 points and taking a seven-point lead into half.

The Pelicans managed to turn the game around in the third. Their offense picked up and their defense continued to challenge the Nets. New Orleans outscored Brooklyn 29-19 in the third quarter. They regained the lead behind a 12-3 run to open the second half.

New Orleans began the fourth quarter with a three-point lead, leading 64-61. Brooklyn’s offense ramped up in the final frame. They scored 32 points in the fourth to send the game to overtime. The Nets missed an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds when Spencer Dinwiddie was unable to connect on a 29-foot 3-point attempt.

Brooklyn ran away with the game in the overtime period. They held the Pelicans to eight points and Dinwiddie’s layup with 1:06 left in the game to make it a five-point lead sealed the win.

Big Number: 108

The Pelicans attempted 108 field goals, but only made 37 on the night. New Orleans struggled offensively as they shot 34.3 percent.

Player of the Game: Spencer Dinwiddie

Dinwiddie led the Nets with 32 points on 11-of-26 shooting from the field. He also led Brooklyn with seven assists. The Brooklyn guard scored six points in overtime en route to the road win.

Up Next: On the road vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves, Wednesday Dec. 18; Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
