After only scoring 26 points in the first half, the University of Louisiana women’s basketball team opened the second half with 21 straight points to lift them to a 68-55 home win over the ULM Warhawks.

How It Happened:

Ragin’ Cajuns guard Brandi Williams opened up the scoring for UL with a 3-pointer. That shot began a 7-0 run but ULM responded with a three of their own.

The offense slowed down within the next four minutes as UL missed their next nine field goal attempts.

Jomyra Mathis ended the offensive drought with a 3-pointer to give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 10-5 lead with 2:57 remaining in the first quarter.

UL’s defense held the Warhawks to only nine points in the first 10 minutes to take a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.

The Warhawks tied the game at 19 with 5:17 remaining in the first half. UL’s Sklyer Goodwin converted on a 3-pointer to end another scoring drought.

ULM took their first lead of the game with 3:06 left in the second. The field goal from Beth Gara Self was part of four consecutive made shots by the Warhawks.

The Ragin’ Cajuns ended the half by hitting one of their last seven final goals. Both teams entered the halftime break tied at 26.

UL opened up the second half on a 21-0 run to lead 47-26.

The Warhawks scored their first points of the half with 4:16 left in the third quarter. They cut the Ragin’ Cajuns lead down to 12 until Kendall Bess’s free throw took UL to the fourth quarter with a 50-37 lead.

Despite a stretch where UL missed six of seven field goals, the Ragin’ Cajuns managed to outscore the Warhawks 16-5 to start the final quarter.

UL remained aggressive with their press defense and cruised to their 13th win of the season. They also improved to 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Big Number: 21

The teams were tied at halftime, but the Ragin’ Cajuns turned the game around with a 21-0 run to open up the second half. UL started 8-of-9 from the field and their press defense forced ULM into eight turnovers the third quarter alone.

Player of the Game: Ty Doucet

The Ragin’ Cajuns starting forward has received this “Player of the Game” honor for a majority of UL’s wins. Doucet led the team once again with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Up Next: At home vs Little Rock, Saturday Feb. 1; Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
