EUNICE — LSU Eunice sophomore Mallory Little is packing up her bags for Mississippi to continue her softball career.

The former Opelousas Catholic star has signed to play at Mississippi College — a NCAA Division II program located inn Clinton, Mississippi. The Baptist-affiliated college is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state and the Choctaws compete in the Gulf South Conference.

Little started at first base the past two seasons with the Bengals. Little finished her Bengals career with a .289 career batting average with 52 RBIs and nine home runs.

“When I went on my visit at Mississippi College it felt like a home away from home,” Little said in a statement. “I am excited to have the opportunity to compete at a higher level. I think it’ll be a great place for me to grow as a person and as an athlete.”

“Mallory is a great example and model of what a true student-athlete should be,” LSUE softball head coach Meghan Collins said. “She is as exemplary off the field as she is on the field and will be a great addition to Mississippi College in the classroom, the community, and especially on the softball field.”

Little is the first LSUE softball student-athlete to join the Choctaws since Ashely Subervielle signed to play there in 2015.

Little was a star first baseman at Opelousas Catholic as she earned Class 1A all-state honorable mention honors as a senior after helping the Vikings earn a playoff berth. After helping the team reach the LHSAA Division IV Quarterfinals as a junior, Little received both All-District and All-Parish first-team honors. Little received the same awards her sophomore season after she averaged .362 at the plate, with 18 RBI and 16 runs.
