Former LSU infielder and now New York Yankee DJ LeMahieu won the Major League Baseball batting title on Sunday .

LeMahieu is the first player in modern MLB history to win the batting title in each league. He is also the first Yankee to lead the league in hitting since Mickey Mantle in 1956 and the first Yankee to lead the American League since Bernie Williams in 1998.

The last time LeMahieu won the batting title was in 2016 for the Colorado Rockies.

LeMahieu batted .364 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI to lead the Yankees to the postseason. New York will play the Cleveland Indians in the AL Wild Card Series on Tuesday.

During his career at LSU, LeMahieu hit .344, 24 double, five triples and 11 home runs. He was named to the 2009 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

LeMahieu had made three MLB All-Star game appearances and he has earned the Gold Glove award three times. LeMahieu also won the Silver Slugger award in 2019.
