RAGIN’ CAJUNS GAMER: Louisiana earns first win over Appalachian State

Posted by Louis Prejean on December 5, 2020 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns finally did it.

Louisiana entered Friday’s game against Appalachian State 0-8 against the Mountaineers.

The Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 9-1 overall for the season after a 24-21 road win over App State.

How It Happened:

The weather played a factor throughout the game. There were rainy conditions and that impacted the special teams for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Louisiana saw a snap fly over punter Rhys Burns’ head a couple of times in the first half. App State gained a 7-0 lead early on, but the Ragin’ Cajuns made it a 7-6 deficit after an 8-yard touchdown run by Trey Ragas.

The Mountaineers increased their lead to 10-6 after a 43-yard field goal. The Ragin’ Cajuns entered halftime only down one point following a 26-yard field goal to end the second quarter.

It was all the Ragin’ Cajuns in the third quarter. Louisiana took the lead with 17-yard touchdown run by Ragas and two-point conversion by quarterback Levi Lewis.

The Ragin’ Cajuns gained a 24-10 lead with 29 seconds remaining in the third. Ragas finished off a 10-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run.

App State put themselves in a position to come back. The Mountaineers trailed by three points after a rushing touchdown and two safeties. They trailed 24-21 with a chance to tie or win the game.

Louisiana was called for pass interference with 14 seconds left in the game, which put App State on Louisiana’s 13-yard line.

The Mountaineers failed to send the game to overtime after a missed 30-yard field goal.

Louisiana lined up in victory formation and defeated App State for the first time in the series history.

Big Number: 1

Throw the statistics out of the window. This is the first time the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated App State in program history. They were previously 0-8 in the all-time series. Louisiana gets over the hump and improves to 9-1 for the season.

Player of the Game: Chauncey Manac

Manac was all over the field for the Ragin’ Cajuns. He recorded an interception as well as six total tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack.

Up Next: Louisiana takes on Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Dec. 19; Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
