A year after opting not to accept an invitation to a bowl game, the LSU football program accepted an invite on Sunday.

LSU will take on Kansas State of the Big 12 in the TaxAct Texas Bowl held at the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans (NRG Stadium). The game will be played on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on 103.7 The Game — Acadiana’s Sports Station.

‘Our football team fought hard down the stretch of the regular season to qualify for bowl competition, and we are proud they will be able to extend their season at the Texas Bowl,” LSU Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said. “We know our fans will be excited to see the Tigers back in NRG Stadium, and our players will be eager to take the field for a primetime matchup on national television.”

LSU (6-6) will enter the game on a two-game winning streak, including a 27-24 victory over Texas A&M in the season finale.

Even though LSU has hired Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly as the Tigers new head coach, the team will be coached in the bowl game by offensive line coach Brad Davis.

Kansas State (7-5) meanwhile will be taking on LSU for only the second time. The previous meeting was during the 1980 season when the Tigers defeated the Wildcats 21-0 at Tiger Stadium.

This will be the second LSU has played in the Texas Bowl, with the other coming in 2015. That year, LSU defeated Texas Tech 56-27.

LSU has played in a total of 52 bowl games, which includes a pair of games in the College Football Playoffs in 2019, and has an overall mark of 28-23-1 in postseason games.
