Ronnie Rantz is adding another title to his resume.
Rantz was a star pitcher at LSU for Skip Bertman who helped the Tigers win the College World Series not once but twice. After his playing career ended, Rantz began a successful radio and television sportscasting career that has spanned more than 25 years. In addition, Rantz has served as Executive Director for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation since 2016.
Rantz is now becoming a sports franchise owner as he has officially become the new owner of the Baton Rouge Rougarou — a minor league baseball team that plays in the Texas Collegiate League. The TCL, which was founded in 2004, is also home to the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
“We are excited to announce the new ownership and plan to bring exciting baseball to the greater Baton Rouge community and beyond,” Rantz said in a statement. “Baton Rouge is a huge baseball town, and we look forward to providing the entire community with an exciting, family fun brand of baseball and entertainment.”
The TCL will consist of five teams for the 2022 season. In addition to the Rougarou and Cane Cutters, the other teams are the Brazos Valley Bombers in Bryant, Texas, the Victoria Generals in Victoria, Texas and the Seguin River Monsters in Seguin, Texas.
The Rougarou’s schedule features 48 games, with 24 home games being played at Pete Goldsby Field in Baton Rouge.
Rougarou season tickets are available, including family four packs of tickets. If interested, call the Rougarou box office at (225) 802-6040 or email [email protected].
