Josh Pearson played a huge role in LSU’s sweep of defending National Champions Mississippi State. For that performance, the West Monroe native was selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday
Pearson was honored with pitcher Blake Purnell of Florida in their SEC series win over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The true freshman batted a .455 going 5-for-11 in the series with two homers, six RBI, and runs scored. Pearsons two homers collected five RBIs in Sunday’s 13-3 victory for the Tigers’ first SEC sweep since May of 2017.
A fifth-inning five-run outburst breaking the 1-1 tie started with Pearson’s three-run homer and propelled LSU to the victory. His sacrifice fly scored LSU’s first run of the game in Friday’s win over the Bulldogs.
Pearson, who also doubled in LSU’s Tuesday night win over Grambling, batted .462 (6-for-13) over the course of the four-game week. He raised his cumulative average for the season to .333 with two doubles, two homers, nine RBI, and five runs scored.
