The New Orleans Saints have traded defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles for a pair of draft picks, according to multiple outlets.
In the trade, the Eagles will receive Gardner-Johnson and the Saints’ seventh-round pick in 2025, while New Orleans will get Philadelphia’s fifth-rounder in 2023 and the lower of their two sixth-round picks in 2024.
Gardner-Johnson was a fourth-round selection for the Saints in 2019 and has been a staple in their defense, bringing high energy and big plays from the nickel corner spot. 2022 was a contract year for the corner, which is the reason behind the move.
The Saints will now look to use his contract money on other key players like Erik McCoy, Marcus Davenport, and eventually Paulson Adebo. Gardner-Johnson was a fan favorite in New Orleans, which is where the social media firestorm comes into play.
In three seasons in the Black & Gold, Gardner-Johnson started 31 of 43 total games, racking up 161 tackles, three sacks, and five interceptions.
