LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys will be playing an Southeastern Conference program next season.

McNeese will visit the Florida Gators on September 9, 2023. The announcement was made Tuesday evening on the SEC Network.

The trip to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — known as “The Swamp” — is the first one for the Cowboys.

“I’m excited to have the University of Florida on our schedule next season,” McNeese Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer said. “Anytime you get to play an SEC team on national TV is a positive. These games help build our brand. I know our fans, donors and players will enjoy going to The Swamp and competing against one of the best programs in the country.”

McNeese have faced SEC opponents before.

McNeese faced off with LSU two times before, with the most meeting opening the 2021 season.

McNeese also faced current SEC member Missouri but fell 50-6 in the 2010 game when the Tigers were in the Big 12. McNeese also put a scare into Texas A&M, also of the Big 12 at the time, falling 38-24 back in 2001.
