Opioid addiction is rampant.
Law enforcement and health officials are warning about a new drug that compounds the problem. It’s called Kratom. The drug is refined from a plant that grows in southeast Asia. The problem is twofold.
Kratom acts on the same receptors in the brain as heroin, morphine & Fentanyl. It’s addictive and it’s legal. It can cause severe withdrawal symptoms. Kratom can also cause respiratory distress, and cardiovascular problems. There’s a push underway to make it illegal at the federal, and state levels.
Several Louisiana parishes have passed ordinances making Kratom illegal.
