Before the 2023 season begins, LSU has placed three players on the Associated Press Preseason All-America team.
Sophomore phenom Harold Perkins Jr is a first-team selection while star receiver Malik Nabers and dynamic defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo were placed on the second team.
Perkins, a native of New Orleans but recruited out of Houston, had one of the best freshman seasons in recent memory with 72 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He also created five turnovers on the season, earning him first-team all-conference honors.
Perkins earned SEC Player of the Week honors three times in 2022 for his performances in consecutive weeks against Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas.
He was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his eight-tackle, three-sack game against Arkansas in Fayetteville late last season.
Wingo completed his second season with LSU in 2022 after transferring from Missouri. He was named a third-team All-American by AP last season after he recorded 47 tackles, six tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Nabers, the Lafayette native, was just the 10th 1,000-yard receiver in LSU history last season when he led the SEC in receptions with 72, racking up 1,012 yards and three touchdowns as well. He was named MVP of the Citrus Bowl after reeling in nine catches for 163 yards and a 75-yard touchdown. The former Comeaux star also threw a touchdown in the game as well.
