The Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators have had a solid season this year. A 6-4 record has led them to a playoff berth. A week ten heartbreaking 44-43 loss to Franklin may have costed the Blue Gators a chance to host a playoff game.
However, they will still have an opportunity as the #17 seed, traveling to Shreveport to face #16 Loyola Prep.
A big reason for the success they have had has been converted wide receiver to quarterback Connor Edmond. Edmond took over as the signal caller this offseason and has helped guide an effective offense throughout the year. He is the subject of today’s Prep Profile Q&A.

QUESTION: Connor, just take me back to the offseason. What were your biggest goals coming into the season? What did you try to work on?
ANSWER: Well, coming into a new position, I just wanted to make sure I could do what I can for my team. I knew it would be difficult because I’d been practicing at it for a while, but never really got into it. So changing from wide receiver to quarterback wasn’t too bad of a transition, but I knew I had to make it as good as I could to help my team.
Q: What’s kind of been the identity of this offense? What makes you guys go? And when you’re playing well, what’s it because of?
A: I think it’s because everyone’s doing their job. When we can establish a run game with Hayden and then be able to send receivers deep, having good routes and blocking great up front. It’s complimentary football.
Q: One of the interesting things about moving from receiver to quarterback is you know the position, right? So do you think that helps you to know where your receivers are supposed to be because that was you a year ago?
A: Yeah, for sure, and it helped knowing all the concepts, knowing when and where they’ll be open. So it’s been very helpful to me learning my way through quarterback.
Q: You guys get a chance now for playoff game. You have to be on the road. What’s the focus and what’s the mentality?
A: Well, we have got to make sure that we can travel well. It’s going to be a three-hour drive. So we have to make sure that we stay focused and know what we have ahead of us.
Q: Lastly, who is a guy in the pro level that you like to watch?
A: A Louisiana guy, so Joe Burrow for sure
