McNeese guard Shahada Wells was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for Men’s Basketball after having a really hot start to the 2023-2024 season.

Wells had a dominating week against UAB and UT-Martin, averaging 30.5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and two steals per game during that run. The Cowboys defeated UAB by 21 points, with Wells contributing 36 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists. Then against the Skyhawks, Wells once again had a big game, scoring 25 points with eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

The TCU transfer shot 67% from the field for the week, as well as going 5-10 from downtown and 8-10 at the free throw line.

The Cowboys will host the Mississippi University for Women on Tuesday night before taking a break for finals week. Will Wade returns next Wednesday when McNeese hosts Southern Miss at the Legacy Center.
