In the Friday nightcap, perennial powers Catholic High-Baton Rouge and Acadiana squared off. The Bears scored just 23 seconds into the game and it was off to the races from there, routing the Wreckin’ Rams in this one 55-31
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bears started the contest with the football and scored just 23 seconds in on a 16-yard touchdown run from Barry Remo to make it 7-0 early. Acadiana then moved 46 yards in 10 plays but had to settle for a field goal to make it a 7-3 game. Catholic came back and scored again, this time a five-yard run from Louisiana commit Daniel Beale, but a missed point after keeping it a ten-point lead.
Acadiana answered right back with a big touchdown drive, set up by a 69-yard run by Caden Dibetta before Ezekiel Hypolite finished the job from five yards out and made it a 13-10 contest.
However, Beale and the Bears struck again, using just 95 seconds to go 67 yards before Beale found his trusty receiver Cohen Leblanc for a 12-yard touchdown and a 20-10 lead for Catholic-Baton Rouge early in the second quarter.
Beale would showcase his arm once more before the end of the first half, finding Louisiana baseball commit Bradley Wright for a 37-yard touchdown to make it 27-10 and that score would hold through the halftime break.
Acadiana got a 19-play, 78-yard drive that took over nine minutes of the third quarter before Dibetta found the endzone on fourth and goal to make it a 27-17 contest late in the third.
Catholic answered right back with a quick six-play, 49-yard drive that resulted in a 16-yard run from Barry Remo to make it 34-17 Bears at the end of the third.
Remo scored again on the next Catholic drive to make it 41-17 Bears and put any hope of Acadiana coming back to rest.
Jonah Gauthier did give the Wreckin Rams some points in the fourth quarter as he scampered for an 82-yard run to make it 48-24 with 9:07 remaining in the game.
Catholic scored once again as Beale threw another touchdown pass to Bradley Wright from three yards away to make it 55-24 with 6:13 remaining in the contest.
Acadiana scored on their next possession with a four yard run from Hypolite to make it 55-31 with 3:20 to go.
That score would hold as Catholic-Baton Rouge captured the state title in Division I Select.
BIG NUMBER: 419
Acadiana rushed for 419 yards tonight, which is a Div I select record. However, Catholic’s offense was just too much in a 55-31 loss.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Daniel Beale
The Ragin Cajuns commit was efficient, going 19-26 for 360 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown in the contest.
PLAYER OF THE GAME II: Barry Remo
The Bears’ running back was also a critical piece to their success as he rushed for 128 yards on 18 carries as well as three touchdowns.
