Sunday at Augusta National. It is one of the great spectacles in the world of sport, and it features the final round of The Masters.
This year, there was a crowded leaderboard of players looking to claim the win, with Scottie Scheffler entering with a one-shot lead.
The early portion of the day did see some players who entered farther back on the leaderboard shoot some good scores. Kurt Kitayama shot a -4 68 and Tom Kim shot a -6 66, showing that conditions were allowing for some low numbers if players took advantage.
That set up our leaders to get things going in the afternoon. Ludvig Aberg was one of the chasers looking to get to Scheffler. He played well, making three birdies on the front nine. Max Homa also had a solid start, shooting one-under on the front. Collin Morikawa made seven straight pars, birdied the eighth, but double-bogeyed the ninth to put himself farther back halfway through.
As the leaders turned to the back nine, the tournament was still up for grabs. Scheffler, Homa, and Aberg all were separated by just a couple of shots. Then, Aberg and Homa’s rounds took a turn. Aberg made double bogey on the 11th hole, dropping him two shots. Then, Homa made double bogey on the 12th, giving Scheffler a cushion of three shots.
At that point, it became Scheffler’s tournament to lose, and the #1 player in the world continued to show why he has that title. Shot after shot, Scottie delivered. He made birdies on 13, 14, and 16 to lengthen his lead. He never waivered down the stretch, and won by four shots, posting a final round 68 and an overall score of -11. Aberg finished second at -7.
The win for Scheffler is now his second at The Masters and his ninth on the PGA Tour.
