Former LSU Tiger track and field athlete Sha’carri Richardson won a gold medal as a part of the Team USA 4X100m relay team.
Richardson competed for the Tigers in 2018 and 2019 on their track and field team. She then turned professional.
In these Olympics, Richardson won a silver medal in the Women’s 100m. She was only beaten by Julien Alford.
In the preliminary round of the 4X100m, Richardson saved the US after a slow start. They won the heat and moved onto the gold medal final.
Team USA once again started behind and had a slow hand-off between the second and third legs. Richardson was the anchor and had ground to make up on Great Britain. She did so, cruising past and winning the gold for the Americans. They finished with a time of 41.78 seconds.
