LSU linebacker Whit Weeks was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week, defensive lineman Dominick McKinley was named SEC Freshman of the Week, and wide receiver Aaron Anderson was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Weeks, a Georgia native, has been a force for LSU this season. He continued that on Saturday night against Oklahoma, totaling 15 tackles in the 37-17 victory. He also added in two tackles for loss and a sack.
McKinley, the true freshman from Acadiana High, has been working his way back from injury in the latter half of the season. He tallied a new career high with four tackles on Saturday, and he also contributed two sacks.
The efforts of Weeks and McKinley helped the LSU defense hold Oklahoma’s offense to just 277 yards of offense and only 10 points on that side. The other seven for OU came on a defensive score.
Anderson, a New Orleans native, took a kickoff back for a 100-yard touchdown in the win. In total, he had 152 kick return yards.
LSU finished the regular season at 8-4, and they will wait for their bowl assignment in the next week or so. You can listen to the Tigers on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
