Tre Harris will be catching passes on Sundays.
The Los Angeles Chargers selected the former Comeaux High star quarterback and Ole Miss record-setting wide receiver in Friday’s second round of the NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Harris was taken with the No. 55 overall pick.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Harris was an All-American and Biletnikoff Award semifinalist this past season for the Rebels. Despite being restricted to eight games due to a lower leg injury, Harris still had 60 receptions for 1,030 yards and seven touchdowns.
In his two seasons at Ole Miss, Harris had 114 receptions for 2,015 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is tied for second in program history for 200-yard games, fourth in 100-yard games, and became the 11th receiver in Ole Miss history to receive 2,000 yards.
Before Ole Miss, Harris played three seasons at Louisiana Tech where he appeared in 31 games with 1,529 yards and 14 touchdowns. His last season in Ruston was a breakout in which he led the Bulldogs with 935 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
With Harris being drafted, the Acadiana area also has seen a wide receiver selected in three consecutive NFL drafts.
Westgate High and LSU star Kayshon Boutte was taken in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. In 2024, Malik Nabers (Comeaux-Southside) was drafted in the first round by the New York Giants, while Keon Coleman (Opelousas Catholic) was a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills.
