Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier will have company when he walks to the octagon for the final time on Saturday night.

During Wednesday’s Media Day for UCF 318 in New Orleans, the Lafayette native confirmed that hip-hop superstar Lil’ Wayne will walk him to the octagon for his retirement fight.

Poirier will take on UFC BMF champion Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 318 inside the Smoothie King Center on Saturday night.

Early in his mixed martial arts career, Poirier would walk out to songs by the New Orleans rapper who has sold more than 120 albums in his legendary hip-hop career.

This will be the third fight between Holloway and Poirier.

Holloway suffered his first professional defeat at Poirier’s hands when the two fought at UFC 143 in 2012. In 2019, UFC featherweight champion Holloway moved up to take on Poirier for the interim lightweight title at UFC 236, which Poirier won.

Poirier (30-9, 1 NC) lost to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 in June of 2024. Holloway (26-8) lost to former featherweight champ Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 last October.

This will also be the second time that Poirier will fight for the BMF championship. He fought Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 in 2023. Holloway knocked out Gaethje to win the BMF title at UFC 200 last year.
