The New Orleans Saints (0-4) will return home to play the New York Giants (1-3). The matchup features two young quarterbacks in a game that both teams are looking to as a chance to grab a win.
New Orleans battled on the road in Buffalo a week ago, but ultimately fell 31-19 to Josh Allen and company. The Saints almost took the lead at one point late in this game, but the potential touchdown pass was overturned, and the team never fully recovered.
New York found their first win of the season in Jaxson Dart’s starting debut. They upset the Los Angeles Chargers 21-18, using their elite defensive front to put a ton of pressure on Justin Herbert.
Kickoff between the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants inside the Caesars Superdome is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3rd.
WINS ARE NOT A QB STAT
While Rattler has not lit the world on fire, his record is not a fair representation of his play. The record as a starter is 0-10, but last season’s games really feel like they should not count when discussing this.
On the other hand, Dart has a 1-0 record despite a great defensive performance that boosted his team one week ago. The schedule gets quite tough for the Giants moving forward, so that 1-0 mark is unlikely to remain unblemished in the near future.
A GIANT FRONT
It is no secret that the defensive front is the best unit for this Giants team. Between Dexter Lawrence II, Kayvon Thibodaux, and Brian Burns, New York can get after the quarterback and make it a miserable day for opposing offensive lines.
The key to neutralizing this aspect is likely being able to run the football and make those elite rushers slow down. The Saints have been pretty good in this area, ranking top ten in the league in rushing yards per game. They will need another good performance in that category.
SUPERDOME REWIND
These two teams once met in one of the most explosive high-scoring games of NFL history. Let’s take a look back at it.
Drew Brees and the Saints defeated Eli Manning and the Giants 52-49 on November 1st, 2015. The game featured 101 total points, and the two starting quarterbacks combined for 13 touchdown passes. New Orleans had four different receivers total at least 70 yards, including two over 100.
These two offenses are a long way away from the explosiveness of those teams. The over/under is set at just 41.5, so it is safe to say it would be a massive stunner if they approach anything close to the numbers that were put up a decade ago.
