The New Orleans Pelicans have fired head coach Willie Green, the club announced on Saturday.
The move comes after a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, which moved the team’s record to 2-10 on the season.
Green’s tenure comes to an end in New Orleans with a record of 150-190 over five years. Despite the struggles, he’s technically the winningest of the last four coaches the Pelicans have had.
This offseason, Joe Dumars took over as President of Basketball Operations. He decided to keep Green in place initially, but rumors started to swirl after a slow start this season.
James Borrego, the former associate head coach, will take over as interim head coach. Borrego has been a hot name in coaching circles around the NBA for the past couple of seasons.
The Pelicans will be back in action on Sunday night at 6:00 PM when they host the Golden State Warriors.
