For just the third time in program history, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball is set to retire a jersey of a program legend.

This time, it is for former catcher Jonathan Lucroy. His #21 jersey will be retired ahead of the Georgia State matchup on May 2nd.

Lucroy was a member of the Cajuns’ program from 2005-2007, and became a mainstay at the catcher position. He finished with a career average of .356, and set multiple program records. Among those records includes doubles (54), RBI (184), and total bases (414).

The former Cajuns’ catcher is already a member of the UL Athletics Hall of Fame and will go into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame later this summer.

A third-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers, Lucroy spent more than a decade in the big leagues. He totaled more than 100 home runs, 500 RBIs, and was a two-time All-Star. He also finished fourth in MVP voting in 2014, putting together an MLB record for catchers with 53 doubles that season.

In addition to his Major League career, Lucroy was a member of Team USA for the World Baseball Classic in both 2013 and 2017.

Lucroy joins Ron Guidry (#3) and Tony Robichaux (#36) as the third player in program history to have their number retired.
