Setting world records is becoming an old hat for Armand “Mondo” Duplantis. He set a new world pole vaulting record of 20 feet, 5 inches over the weekend at a meet in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Mondo is a Lafayette native but now competes for Sweden. He’s broken the world record 6 times in the past 3 years.
Duplantis was born November 10th, 1999 in Lafayette, Louisiana. His father, Greg was a pole vaulter. His mother, Helena, was a long jumper. Armand was competing internationally as a high school student. He spent 1 year at LSU before going pro. Duplantis won a silver medal at the 2018 world championship in Doha. He won gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Mondo’s sister currently pole vaults for LSU.
