The defensive performance for both teams was the highlight all night long in Death Valley, but Alabama was able to strike late to come away with a 10-0 win over LSU.
The start for the Tigers looked promising with an early interception from Jamal Adams got the ball on the third play from scrimmage. But the Alabama defense was ready to play and forced LSU to kick a field goal which was blocked by Ronnie Harrison.
The remainder of the first half was relatively quiet with both teams not giving up an inch. This was the first time in 126 games that the Crimson Tide were shutout through two quarters played and both teams were almost even with Alabama only having 20 more yards of offense at the break.
Alabama looked to come close to scoring in the third quarter after Jalen Hurts connected with Stewart on a 51-yard pass, but LSU stopped the Tide at the one yard line after four straight rushes. They would not be denied with a lengthy drive that ended with Hurts taking it himself for the score from 21 yards out to break the stalemate.
Only two plays later, Etling was picked off by Fitzpatrick to give Alabama perfect field position and they ate up the clock with a 15 play, nine minute drive that ended with a 25 yard field goal from Adam Griffith to put it away.
LSU (5-3, 3-2 SEC) will leave the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium to travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (6-3, 1-3 SEC) with kickoff set for 6 pm.
