Lauren Allred was named the Sun Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week after her three home-run week that led Louisiana to a 3-1 record.
The Texarkana native finished the week with seven RBI, which let the team and posted her home runs in the Cajuns’ two wins on the road at Troy. The freshman finished the week with an OPS of 1.538 and she now leads the Cajuns in RBI with 37.
Allred’s week started with a two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning to push their lead over Southeastern to 4-0 and ended with a two-run homer in Troy that started a run of six unanswered runs for Louisiana. She homered again in the game for her first multi-homer game in her career.
This is the first Player of the Week award for Allred, which has eight home runs and 34 RBI since March 1. For the Cajuns, this is now six weekly awards for the 2023 seasons, with Landry and Schorman winning Pitcher of the Week, Karly Heath was named Player of the Week in March, and Landry and Laney Credeur swept the awards the week of April 11. Allred’s honor is the 98th for the program.
The Ragin Cajun first baseman is hitting .375 with three doubles, three triples, and nine home runs. She also ranks as one of the toughest players to strike out in America with only five strikeouts in 105 plate appearances.
No. 25 Louisiana returns to the diamond on Friday in Conway, South Carolina when they play a three-game series against Coastal Carolina at St. John Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. Friday.
