The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns special teams was one of the highlights last season, especially when it came to making field goals.
Stevie Artigue was named to the Watch List for the 2017 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award on Wednesday. The former Lafayette High Mighty Lion is the lone Sun Belt Conference kicker named to the list.
After a rough start, Artigue wound up making 19 of his 24 field goals including his last nine. His 19 field goals tied John Roveto for the second most in a single-season in school history.
The Award is named for Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza, along with being a placekicker, was an All-Pro offensive lineman and ushered the notion that there should be a place on the NFL roster for a kicker.
