Astros acquire Gomez and Fiers from Brewers

One day after Carlos Gomez was nearly traded to the New York Mets, but wasn’t because of fears over his alleged condition of his hips, the Milwaukee Brewer is now headed to the Houston Astros along with pitcher Mike Fiers in exchange for several prospects.

The 29 year old two-time All-Star is expected to become the everyday centerfielder replacing Jake Marisnick. Gomez so far this season has a batting average of .262, hit eight home runs and  43 RBIs.

Along with Gomez, the Astros will be getting Mike Fiers who has a 5-9 record with the Brewers and 3.89 ERA. The 30 year old is expected to be at the back end of the Astros rotation behind Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, rookie Lance McCullers, recently acquired Scott Kazmir, and veteran Scott Feldman. The Astros have also recieved an international pool slot.

In exchange for this, the Astros are sending over four minor leaguers- outfielders Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana along with lefty Josh Hader and Adrian Houser.
