When you look at the box score for the New Orleans Pelicans (8-7) most nights the bulk of points come from Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. Wednesday night was a different story with six players in double figures, but still came up short against the Toronto Raptors (9-5) 125-116.
The Pelicans got behind the eight ball early, but a 15-3 run gave them a double digit lead with a little more than seven minutes left in the first quarter. The Raptors did chip away at the lead late and made it a five-point deficit after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was a little more contentious between the two teams with the lead changing five times before Kyle Lowery gave Toronto the lead with a deep three-ball with 33 seconds left to make it 64-63 at the break.
The second half started out about the same, but the Raptors began to pull away late in the third quarter with a 15-4 run in the final 3:27 to make it a 98-86 lead. That double digit lead was just a little too much for the Pelicans despite putting up 30 points in the fourth quarter including eight from Cousins.
The Pelicans will hit the road on Friday when they take on the Denver Nuggets (8-6) with tipoff set for 9:30 pm.
