When you think of the LSU Tigers, it’s hard to not think about the wide receiver position.
Baton Rouge has produced some legendary talents at the wideout spot, most recently Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, arguably the top two receivers in the NFL. You can also look at Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Wendell Davis, Devery Henderson, and numerous others.
In 2023, LSU once again has a talented group of skill players. Let’s dive into the Tigers’ wide receiver and tight end room.
Malik Nabers
Nabers comes into the 2023 season as one of the top wideouts in college football. He led the SEC in receptions while finishing second in yards with 1,017. He’s the 10th Tigers receiver to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season and will look to build on that in 2023 as the primary option for Jayden Daniels.
To see what Nabers has been able to do in just two years with the program is incredible, and he will fly up draft boards if he has another strong showing in 2023.
Kyren Lacy
Lacy had a solid first year in Baton Rouge after transferring from Louisiana. He finished 2022 with 24 catches for 268 yards, but as the third or fourth option, it was hard for Lacy to carve a role.
In 2023, I look for Lacy to be the second receiver option for the Tigers offense and have a bigger impact for the LSU offense.
Mason Taylor
Taylor had an incredible freshman season, catching 38 passes for 414 yards and three touchdowns. But no play was bigger than the successful two-point conversion in overtime to take down Alabama in Tiger Stadium.
He’s a talented tight end with football in his genes (his father is Hall of Fame linebacker Jason Taylor) who will use his strength and catching ability to be a key option for Mike Denbrock in this LSU offense.
Others to Watch
Aaron Anderson returns to Louisiana after spending his first season at Alabama and redshirting. You’ve also brought in very talented freshmen in Shelton Sampson Jr, Kyle Parker, and others.
Brian Thomas Jr is also back for his junior season after racking up 361 yards and five touchdowns in 2022.
For the tight end position, Jackson McGohan and Mac Markway were highly touted out of high school, so they will look to make an impact behind Taylor in 2023. Special teamer Gabe Leonards from Notre Dame High School could also look to make some plays as a pass catcher for the Tigers this season.
